Christian Pincock - Trombonist


Christian Pincock is a trombonist with experience in many styles of music. Coming from a foundation in jazz, he has performed in a diverse range of situations including big bands, jazz combos, symphonies, brass quintets, marching bands, dixiland bands, funk bands, variety bands, ranchero, kirtan, rock, avante-garde jazz, experimental, electro-acoustic, and has collaborated in projects involving actors, dancers, and visual artist.

While living in New York, Boston, and Berlin, Christian has been an active member of the performing arts community, playing with bands such as the Walter Thompson Orchestra, The Joe Battaglia Big Band, Gary Wofsey's Orchestra, and at venues such as Birdland, The Rainbow Room, Jordan Hall, and Lincoln Center.

Christian has experience as a composer, arranger, and copyist. In addition to his own works for big band and jazz quintet, he has written arrangements for the Manhattan School of Music Big Band and Trombone choir, the Joe Battaglia Big Band, and The New England Conservatory Jazz Composers Big Band. He has worked as a music engraver at Notecraft, LLC in Boston using Finale and Sibelius software, and has done copywork for jazz artist Benny Golson.

Christian holds a Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory where he studied with Bob Brookmeyer, Scott Hartmann, and John McNeil. He has a Masters of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Steve Turre and David Taylor. He has attended the Banff Center Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music in Alberta, Canada in 2005 where he worked with artists such as Dave Douglass, DJ Olive, Marilyn Crispell, Donny McCaslin, and Clarence Penn, and has been a Fellow at the Music Omi International Arts Residency in 2007.

Christian currently lives in Albuquerque, NM where he teaches private trumpet, trombone, and piano, leads workshops on improvisation, and plays regularly with dixiland band "The Route 66 Revelers" and Ranchero/Funk band "Crossroads".
